Renovation and Extension

When designing an addition to a 1920’s Symmetrical Sandstone Cottage, the client’s brief was centred around creating a bright and open living space for the family, that would wrap around an existing pool to maximize outdoor living opportunities.  Kentdale Homes worked closely with Donny Perone from Dimension Design Studio and the clients, to design a cost effective solution that ticked all the boxes.

The new rear addition adds to an existing ‘eighties extension’, to create an enormous open plan living space which opens seamlessly onto an alfresco decking area adjacent the existing pool.  A second decking area for the client’s teenage children has been designed around the pool, to ensure this home is suitable for the entire family to enjoy together.

The addition has been constructed on a concrete slab with a combination of steel and timber for the structural build and framing.  A double brick construction was selected to tie in with the original home and extra Northern windows added to lighten the space.  The existing eighties rear flat roof has been removed and replaced with a high pitch truss roof to match into the existing. Materials have been salvaged and selected carefully to ensure the original and new structures are complimented.

Featuring polished timber floors, high ceilings with feature LED shadow-line bulkhead, 2 pack kitchen with Fino Venato Stone Benchtops and stainless steel appliances plus custom corner black commercial aluminium stacker doors opening to the Modwood deck area, this extension is a stunning addition to the home.

This project is a classic example of modern Australian Architecture: designing a modern, open plan extension to take advantage of our gorgeous summer climate, whilst retaining the historic tradition of the existing home to compliment the streetscape.  We are almost finished…stay tuned for the final photo shoot.
